What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that works with the body’s natural energy flow—often called qi (life force energy). By placing ultra-fine needles at specific energy points, acupuncture helps unblock stagnant energy and rebalance the body’s energetic pathways. Many people use it to realign mind, body, and spirit, support natural healing and restore a sense of inner harmony.
How does it work?
There are two main perspectives on acupuncture:
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) view
- The body has energy pathways called meridians.
- Illness or discomfort is believed to result from blocked or imbalanced qi.
- Needling specific points is thought to restore balance.
Modern biomedical view
- Acupuncture may stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue,
- Increase blood flow
- Trigger the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins.
Western Medicine Theory: From a Western perspective, the needles are believed to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. This stimulation signals the body to release natural chemicals, including endorphins (the body's natural painkillers), neurotransmitters, and neurohormones. This process can change how the body experiences pain, reduce inflammation, and influence the body's internal regulating systems to aid healing.
What is cupping?
Cupping is a traditional healing practice in which special cups are placed on the skin to create gentle suction. This suction is believed to help increase blood flow, release tension, and stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.
People often use cupping for muscle tightness, stress relief, and improved energy flow. After a session, it’s normal to have round marks on the skin—they’re not bruises but signs of increased circulation and typically fade within a few days.
Cupping is an ancient energetic therapy that uses warm glass or silicone cups to gently pull the skin upward, creating a vacuum that helps release stagnant energy from the body. This lifting motion is believed to open energetic pathways, improve the flow of qi (life force), and draw out tension, stress, and energetic blockages.
Many people experience cupping as a way to:
- Clear heavy or “stuck” energy
- Restore balance and vitality
- Encourage deep relaxation
- Support the body’s natural detox and healing rhythms
The circular marks left behind are often seen as signs that stagnant energy has been released and the body is rebalancing.
Can I take Chinese herbs with my medications?
Yes—but it’s important to be careful. Some Chinese herbs may interact with prescription medications, either making them stronger, weaker, or causing unwanted side effects. Because every person’s health and medication list is different, you should always talk with a licensed herbalist or your healthcare provider before combining them. They can help you choose herbs that are safe and support your specific needs.
